In our Student and Alumni Profile series, we will regularly feature students and alumni to give you a glimpse of who we are, and more importantly, offer you insights and perspectives if you plan to walk the same path. Meet Nilesh Patel, a chemistry major who, after years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, decided to switch to clinical research. He is currently enrolled in our Clinical Trial Management program and is completing an internship program.
Please share a little about yourself
I have worked in quality control, R&D and manufacturing roles for over a decade, after completing my Masters in Chemistry, and am now looking forward to transition to clinical research. I’m passionate about making a positive impact to the society, through continous learning and upgrading my skills. This is why I chose the Clinical Trial Management program at Sollers College. I was in search of a professional program to upgrade my skills for a better career and this program aligns with my background and professional interests.
What do you like about your experierence with Sollers?
My favourite parts about learning with Sollers College are the exceptional, stellar faculty members who regularly share valuable industry insights and the internship program that’s essentially the “on-the-job” experience. Since I’m about to pursue a new career with no prior related experience, the projects, industry tools and internships have been very useful to grasp and master the realities of working in clinical research. I also like the overall environment of Sollers: friendly, professional teams always eager to help – whether it’s admissions, faculty or career services.
Did anything surprise you about your experience with Sollers?
Yes. I did quite a bit of research on what training programs to do and with whom. I hadn’t heard about Sollers College, but got curious about its programs once I did. Now that I’m almost done with my training, what I find surprising is that the training is quite cutting-edge, and Sollers is quick in adapting to latest trends and tools and teaching us those to be job-ready. I’m pleasantly surprised. We learn the most relevant and recent industry tools. Sollers has a pulse on what the industry needs, and I find that quite amazing and surprising.
What are your career goals / future plans?
I want to get into a leadership role in Clinical Research with a leading pharmaceutical company five years from now.
Do you have any advice / tips for prospective students?
Research is important, so take advantage of the many opportunities training companies offer these days to learn more about their programs – demo sessions, info sessions, one-on-one meetings etc. Believe it or not, I attended four information sessions by Sollers College before I signed up!
Also, I believe the value of such programs depends on how and how much you can take from it. Sollers College has a lot to offer, and can help you navigate into clinical research careers; but you have to take charge of your own careers.
